The information contained in the manual and guide instruct the user to plug the UC-E6 USB cable into the camera first before plugging into the AC power supply. This process will not switch the camera power on automatically, and you would need to press the ON button yourself to initiate charging. No damage will occur if this is not done correctly, it just will not start charging automatically.
